streetscape3 The Central Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project aims to improve the streetscape appearance, roadway re-surfacing, underground infrastructure improvements and traffic and pedestrian safety of Central Avenue.

The Central Avenue Master Plan generated recommendations related to developing a revitalized commercial area that provides a welcoming and friendly shopping and service oriented environment for both the local community and the broader area.

Phase 1 – July 2012
109th Street – 110th Street

The entire streetscape project will consist of:

West Side of Central Avenue

  1. Improvements on street corner building, sidewalk furniture, street trees, improved lighting, bollards, bike racks, waste receptacles, and a new sidewalk with amenity strips.

East Side of Central Avenue

  1. Improvements including street bulbs, sidewalk furniture, improved lighting, and street trees.
  2. Multi-use path along the east side of Central Avenue from 108th Street to 115th Street.
  3. Decorative fence providing a visual separation from the CP Railway property.
  4. Roadway re-surfacing from 107th Street to 111th Street and upgrades to water lines between 109th Street and 110th Street.

Phase 2 – August 2014
110th Street – 112th Street

Phase 2 is divided into 3 stages, beginning at the east side of Central Avenue.

Stage 1

  1. The sidewalk along the west side of Central Avenue between 110th and 112th.
  2. Streets will be closed to pedestrians while the sidewalk is removed and replaced for the water and sewer work to take place. Central Avenue will be closed to traffic.
  3. Traffic will be detoured down Egbert Avenue during this period.

Stage 2

  1. The remaining construction on the west side of Central Avenue between 110th and 112th Streets will take place.; two-way traffic will be accommodated in the northbound lanes of Central Avenue.

Stage 3

  1. The sidewalk along the east side of Central Avenue between 110th and 113th.
  2. Streets will be closed to pedestrians while the sidewalk is removed and replaced.
  3. Northbound traffic will be accommodated on Central Avenue, while southbound traffic will detour (see map).
